OK, hyphen man, I'm probably 4 stone lighter than you but half your height!
And Maybe it's time to own up and show you the Muntjac that I failed to get. It was really annoying because it was the best view I'd ever had, and it stood there munching.
First is the full frame as taken. Second is a non-resized 800x600 crop out of the centre. OK, I just have to get a longer lens...

Sorry Linn its probably under my nose, but what lense do you use in the field for wildlife? as you probably know the focus may not be perfect, but using a short lense and then cropping can cause major quality loss (you may have guessed by now i am a bit loathed to crop too much ) i use the 100-400mm 99% of the time, and on rare occasions use the 1.4 converter with it, but again its image quality is not the best and its useless for panning fast birds, i cant help trying to get that little closer to my subject, hence the order today of the Sigma 150-500MM lens, (getting excited now, due Friday) it can be handheld and is half the price of the one i can only dream of, the Canon 500mm prime plus i couldnt afford the vehicle that i would have to carry it around in as its massssive!
Its in my gallery but here is a muntjac i photographed in Thetford, i was laying flat on my belly with only my elbows as supports, as you can see there is grass obscuring him but i aimed between the eyes obtaining ok focus, being well camoflagued up i think he thought i was a rather large weed that was'nt there earlier

Hello Bev,
You see, there's the difference. You have a lens that is suited to wildlife in the field. I just go for walks and photograph some of the things I see, with a general purpose lens that came with the camera. I know that's not the way to take great wildlife photos. The way you do it is the only way. Properly equipped, properly dressed, properly planned.
That's why I crop - not because of my plan, but because that's the only part of the frame that is any good using my standard 18-135mm digital (equivalent to 27-200mm on 35mm).
Is your 100-400mm lens a 35mm film size or digital? My head still works in 35mm size. Either way it's definitely a far better starting point for wildlife pics rather than my little one. Size is important
You're really making me jealous (and of course inspired) - first with your results, now with the new lens - due tomorroooooow!
