Saw one of these when i was about 11yrs old hiding in a rock crevice they arent very big from memory. Never seen another in this country since, round here all habitat destroyed and newts, frogs, toads, lizards and stuff are rarer than my kids buying me a pint and believe me that is almost extinct. as said before, we get to see things here we dont see day to day. Thanks for that Miss T! (".." didnt realise we had lizards so she is educated now)

Great image as usual Bev. Nice detail and colour. Think I'd be too scared to stand and take a photograph even if I was lucky enough to spot one

The last time i saw one of these was on land which is now covered by a housing estate down farmer way nr willingsworth HS, it was elephant rock and pools and stuff when i was a kid. Thought you were a Black Country girl?, not a southern softie type (waits for slap from Miss T, who is an obvious exception!).

Ooooh you got that in just in time Mr.D
I think development and housing estates are to blame from one end of the country to the next for the decline in things like newts and lizards etc, ( approx 3 1/2 inches in length).
Great memories those Den, we had a place like that near to our house when i was little, and i remember finding what i thought was a slow worms nest but to my dads horror they turned out to be baby adders!! those were great times.
Mau thanks always appreciate your feedback and comments.
