Thanks folks! This was a 'desperation' shot. I had gone out with the camera and had two locations in mind - Lennox Castle, or Campsie Glen (within a mile or so of each other, but very different landscapes). I ended up plumping for Lennox Castle. While on my way through the forest, i heard a helicopter overhead, but thats not uncommon in this area as there are a lot of helicopter tours along the hills and on to Loch Lomond. When i reached the top of the forest, with open views to Campsie Glen, i discovered that the helicopter wasn't a tourer, but actually a rescue helicopter on a call for some incident at the steep cliffs and waterfalls in the glen. So here was i, a mile away from the action getting b*gger all shots, and no real chance of making it over to the glen before the helicopter had done its job. I ended up packing my kit away and heading back down the hill for the short walk home. It wasn't until i reached the ponds that the sky became a little more interesting and gave the perfect opporchancity to get the shot that i wanted, and i think it worked out ok.
So i never did get any decent shots of the helicopter in action, and this shot was taken two minutes walk from my house, but hey, it was a nice night for a walk!

Nice photo.
I think you would have had a proper sunset if you had waited another hour

Unfortunately not. The skies over the past little while have all looked like they were building up to spectacular sunsets, but the clouds have disappeared quickly and the sun has gone down with just a whisper
