Default Hi from Lancashire

I'm interested in digital art and photography, and like many I'd love to make a living from it. I've started that by opening galleries on Second Life and selling my work, I also bring photographs of Second Life back out to the real world.
I do some 3D modelling work, and produce pottery, bottles, goblets etc which I decorate with my art and photos and sell in Second Life, it's a great way of getting a new look at your photos. It's amazing how a picture can be changed by being wrapped around an urn or pot.
What I'd really like is a few self employed agents to sell my work under licence globally to industry, then live off all those royalties...then I woke up:-) my dreams keep me trying.

Thanks Phil, I have an insatiable urge to keep learning new things. I do wood turning and carving, glass engraving and other crafts. But my first love is the art and photography that I do. as I can't post any work here yet I do have work on flickr and facebook. Flickr: Photos from kenwalters2

Hi Ken, it's great to have you with us. I'm intrigued that you are selling your photos on Second Life! I know about second life but have never been on there and not so long ago I heard on the radio they had their first millionaire. I'll have to take a second look at it soon, I feel I'm missing out now

Hi Paul
I sell my photos and digital art there, Second Life is good but watch out for the hype. They now have a turnover inlife of US$1 million per day, in May this year it was US$1.5 million per day. So rent on galleries etc has come down, and there is a growing crowd who use free memberships and then expect everything to be free when they log in. The most popular place is Welfare Island, which explains the mind set of some.
Having said that. I make a range of unique pottery and sell it, and am now working with exclusive boutiques to make items exclusively for them. I also sell my art & photos both real life and second life.
One of the tricks is to join the right groups and then get yourself, and your work, known.
But it is a friendly place for the most part, and I have more friends around the world now than I did before. There is crime there, but thankfully everybody polices sl to keep it down which gives you an idea of what most of them are like. I enjoy it.
I'd say give the free membership a go, and if you like it then change to the £5 a month premium membership and you can then rent or buy property etc.
Ken

Hi Ken.
Nice to see another 3d fanatic. I use 3ds max mostly with the excellent V-ray renderer.
Looking forward to some posts mate. Greetings from down here in Cornwall

Hi TCO
I'm just starting out, currently using Rokuro and have a copy of Blender. When I get enough experience I may move onto Maya or similar. Rokuro is so simple to use it's addictive, I need something similar for other shapes so I don't have to think too hard :-) If you're interested 3D modellers are always needed in Second Life, it's in recession at the moment but good stuff sells. And you can try out the free membership to see whether it's your thing or not, to own land or run a business you need a premium account at £5 per month. It can be good fun andmost people there are friendly and honest.
Ken
