Hi all,
I am a complete beginner to the world of photography and would like all the help that can be offered. I have only recently been brave enough to turn the dial off auto and start playing with other options my camera offers! So looking forward to getting involved on this site.

Hi Derek and welcome, this is where you start learning 'by twisting that dial away from Auto' and getting different effects in your pictures that you did not expect. We are all learning here so just fit right on in.
