Dennis is off line at the moment, but I should imagine that he used levels to give it more punch. And used the cloning tool to remove those flies. But I'm sure that Dennis will explain when he comes back on line. There are a few people here who use Paint Shop Pro, and I'm sure that you should be able to do all of these things in it.

Graham, i used Paintshop pro for many years, all the mags dont cover so i gave in and went to lightroom for handling the photos initially (no mags seem to do lightroom) and elements 6 (cutdown version of Photoshop £60) for the cloning e.t.c All i did was a quick levels adjustment, spot tool remover for the flies and cloned out the shadow. prefer the angled view to the head on one by the way.

Both but lightroom is £200. I dont use photoshop, unless you are a pro you cant afford £500+ for a hobby, Elements is the cut down version and does what paint shop pro does with tweaks. What annoys me is mags dont do tutorials on paint shop pro so i gave it up. Lightroom is brill i finds and dont even get to elements unless i have to do serios cloning and stuff. I always shoot raw and lightroom handles your raw files but NEVER changes them, so doesnt destroy them no matter how you change. You are only working on a virtual file. When you have the image you want you export it any format or size you want and you get a new version leaving the old ones untouched.
Nice cows by the way, Len is right cows have flies, but when you view then you look at the flies rather than the cows!

I really enjoy both photos. My only quirk about the second photo is it looks like the cows head is floating in mid air. I prefer the first shot where part of the body is there. I grew up around cows my whole life and never thought about taking their portraits. Love it!

Cracking image Graham - these are my kind of shots! There a couple in my gallery (HDRbit).
Like what you've done with the second image, you've mirrored one half of the image and flipped it! I did some experimenting with this a while ago - you can get some amazing results with this technique!
