Help!!!!!! !!!!!
Photographers Comments
Last night there was a wonderful full moon .. and as u can see .. I did try but find there is all kinds of flare spots .. not sure if that is what they are called.. and was wondering if I have an opportunity like this again .. would love to know how to do it properly .. not sure if I should have taken off all filters??? I tried a good many other settings .. and they just got worse .. actually on some of them it shows.. 3 moons .. lol .. sad .. sad .. sad. . I did use a tripod, and set it for 10 seconds ..Thanks for any help that u can give me.. I didnt know how to start a new thread .. for this problem. ..
Cheers
Else

It looks like you could have pointed your lens directly into the light of the full moon. (Remeber light travels in straight lines) This has allowed the light to bounce around the mirrors inside your camera and then diectly onto your 'film plane' causing the lens flare effect. A smaller apperture ie f.22 would have enhanced this further and possibly picked up on the 'three moons' (2 mirrors + original). Try adjusting the angle slightly so the light is bounced at the opposite angle and not so directly. However with an orb at such a distance, this is not so easily achieved.

one thing to remember, you dont always need long expo's to get the moon. you would to get more ambient light in, but not the moon. there are a few moon shots in the members galleries, esp of the eclipse a while back. search out those and check the exif for their shots
if in doubt bracket like mad and shoot raw that way you can reprocess the same shot and HDR it..

Thank you everyone for your help .. will sure try all that has been suggested .. And definitely take off any filters that I have on the lens.. It's cloudy here today . so no chance of getting another photo tonight, but if in a off chance the clouds clear .. will try again .. Bev, that is the little town of Blaine it's a border town I would think that a good many of the lights are the border crossing .. in Washington State.
Cheers
Else

Else I shoot the moon with spot and on shutter speed around 250 with my 70 to 300 lens... The moon is actually moving quite fast and the light from it with spot metering has always been good for me.

Strange but I have never tried to photo the moon, and it's probably because I don't have a large telescope.
I can still remember the magnifient shot Clare took thru a big eleven inch reflecting scope, it was so good I guess it just put me off.
But good to see you trying Else.
Cheers,
