Photographers Comments
This is my first real attempt at using some of the artistic effects in Photoshop Elements. The original image was washed out, although reasonably interesting, so I thought Id give it a go to see if I could improve it.
I welcome your feedback on this - not sure if it works or not!

Hi Lenita.
The filters are a little heavy and some dodge and burning may have helped a little. Try a combination of filters and styles. You could make this into an old looking photo with a little help from your filters.
Take a look in my profile at a piece of work called "from photograph to Picture". It is pretty similar to this only different filters were used.
Cheers

Thank you so much for your comments xp1 .... one thing I am unclear on .. what is 'dodge and burning'? I am a rank beginner when it comes to Photoshop Elements - so really appreciate your help.

Hi Lenita,
Dodging and burning is a method of creating or enhancing light and dark spots or areas in specific areas of a picture. You can make shadows and highlights as dark or as light as required. Imagine the waves at your local beach !! or a picture of a flag blowing in the wind.
Using Photoshop (all versions) or other similar programs (they all have more or less the same tools) you can create the light areas with the dodge tool and the dark areas with the burn tool. You can also set the strength of both tools plus one or two other settings.
Take a look in your tool bar for the tools and have a play. The more you dodge the lighter it gets and the more you burn the darker it gets. Always use these types of tools on it,s own layer as they are destructive tools.
Cheers
