Read a book on composition that says odd numbers work in images, 1, 3, 5 e.t.c And i think this works, it looks cropped and i would have left the 2 outer edges in i think. but the grain and the geometric shapes work for me. The monochrome also shows up the grain nicely.

well, it certainly is eyecatching. I like the direction of the light so that it is highlighting the boards. I would prefer to have some room between the rivets and the bottom of the photograph. In the background, looks like there is a dark tree cutting the image in half..it spoils. This a great quality of B&W. You get an 'A' for stretching yourself!

Yup, 3's and 5's work well in composition. I like the way you have arranged this shot. It suits mono (and the mono conversion is good). I would agree with Fay that a bit extra space at the bottom, just to bring the bolt heads fully into the frame. I kinda like the backdrop, I can just make out that it's a walkway/bridge(?) yet is well out of focus and makes the posts really stand out.

It's a good shot Fiona. Subjects like this are well worth exploring, do I see a 'geometric' phase coming on?
