Hi Paul,
if you can pick the centre of the candle and imagine a verticle line straight up from this point, you will see that the painted light is off centre (too far left).
I also feel that the painted light may have been more effective if it had a slight blur or glow around the edges to it. Lastly, if you use selective colours in PS and chose black, then increase the definition by around 4% this will clean up the BG.

I am a bit of a novice, did you create the entire light section using photoshop? or did you have some starting point from the original photo?
