Something to drink
Photographers Comments
This really will make Fay Laugh!!
------Yes Ive got no bubbly------
-----Sorry or at least not yet------
You know I found taking a picture of a bottle a little more challenging than I first thought. I tried an assortment of lighting setups before I chose this one. In the holidays Im going to have to work on this a little. And maybe next week Ill have some bubbly as well.

Just a couple of things let this down Joseph in my oppinion. The glass is the wrong type and you could do with some back lighting on the bottle to lift it from the back ground. I do like the reflection of the bottle though and its a nice idea.

Use white card to reflect light in behind to keep it soft. The one thing with glass is everything must sooooo clean. reflections on what the items are stood on is great but keep it clean..you're right it isnt easy and you have prob chosen the most difficult!! good luck, dont think i'm capable at all!!! using black card down the sides should keep the lines dark and crisp as well..keep at it and let us see your progress. helps me as well as you!!!

The secret is to spit, and then polish.
I have never used cards, so maybe I should take a run at this exercise. I'm not a drinker, but I have a lovely dark bottle that I've saved because I think it is so attractive. Was the background really that dark or did you have to change something?..The lettering on the bottle needs to be sharper. I would love to have some of that plum pudding, with whipped cream, of course.

Hi Joseph.
Here are some proofs I sent to one of my customers a while back. There are no backgrounds just plain white, this is because they are purely stock bottle shots and not artistic content ones.
I have posted them here because these were taken using the black/white card method mentioned by Andy.

Well looks like I've got a few to answer, but lets take Fay first because it answers a similar question that the others quirred.
Fay the bottle sat on black marble, with black velvet for the backdrop.... (the black velvet was something that I learned from my Portaiture.) and I was trying to keep as much light of it in order for it to register a deep black.......and I wasn't very successful either, so had to darken the picture a little at the expense of darkening the bottle as well, so see...... to start with I did that part wrong, or lets just say that I could have done it better another way. I know for next time.
Now the type on the bottle as you so readerly noticed is not very sharp.
This also gave me some trouble, and was the main reason for trying out different things. But I was never happy with it.!!!!!!
Thanks for dropping by Nik.
Yes I see that you have noticed that I don't have a full house when it comes to glasses.
Sorry this was the best that I could do on short notice.
Your suggestion with backlighting sounds worth a try, a little tricky to apply tho, I'll think about it.
Some good ideas from Andy tho,
Thanks I'll work on that, and I'll try and Post some improvements.
And thanks for Posting some samples Tco.
And yes I'm thinking of doing a re-do with the Card idea, or maybe a softbox or a Flash from underneath.
