Ok, so with notebook, tips from you fab intellectuals and ones manual, we went off to try again. Think this makes a much better shot, but please feel free if there are any further improvements i can make to this. Big thank you for the encouragement and advice.

This is a much better shot, although if you were still using wheels as your title, you will need to include all of the rear wheel I think. I also like the shadow under the engine.

Hi Lorraine,
Great colour, focus and lighting. But as suggested, the crop lets it down slightly. Now is the time to get a little more imaginative. Choose areas of the image and try selective cropping or re-photograph selective areas in macro to create abstract works of the whole.
Here I have done an example to start you off.
