Hmm, looks like a seriously big (relatively speaking) dust fiber to me. You would be unlikely to ever see this on a DSLR but the photosites are so much smaller on P&S it could be possible.
As for a solution, don't really know, try to shake it loose without damaging the camera, tricky. Strip, clean and rebuild, also tricky and would require a clean room (read super clean, no dust etc. atmosphere controlled, space suits blah blah...).
All I can say is, I hope I'm wrong...

You could accidentally drop the camera, I presume you have house contents insurance .

Thanks Merv, and Barry... I guess there is no cure for this.. Glad it is not one of my better cameras.. I liked the size and quality of photo that I could get from it.. Will give it a shake or two and then maybe drop it....lol
