I like these type of shots, but your one seems to be too dark on the main tree truck making it almost black with very little detail. I think you have two choices here, either lighten up the main truck or take the photo again but don't get so close to one tree this way you will see more smaller trucks and the nice branches being silhouetted against the blue sky. I have just read your description again (squirrel road) and I can now see what you were trying to do, but having the foliage at the bottom left hand corner sort of loses the tree truck a bit, so if this is what you were trying to do then maybe try and find a tree that has no foliage behind it so that it will silhouette against a lighter background.

Wonderful shot Mel! I just love the repetition of the shapes in the tree tops as well as your wonderful lighting to keep the detail in the sky as well as a hit of colour in the branches. If you were to print this out and put it on a south facing window sill, the light shining through would be amazing.
An abstract of the top right would work well too. Thanks for sharing

Nice one Mel you might be able to get some detail in PS from the trunk as Barry says its a little dark. I had a play in PS and got this the quality is not very good as I used your reduced image but you should have better results especially if you shot in raw.

This is different...very interesting. i would go for a gnats jockey lighter in the trunk but defo not pleasing bright as this would ruin the shot. i love the positioning of the treetops on the rhs....
cheers to all the squirrels doing 70mph on your road!!

thank you all for your comments, i did in fact intend the photo to be a silhouette showing against a blue sky - one of my favourite topics is experimenting with light and silhouettes and trying to get the photo right without using ps which i am really just learning. nik and barry you are absolutely right about the darkness but in this case it is how i wanted it to be

the only reason i would have lightened the trunk was because it is your main lead in line so you need somewhere for the eye to start and then get drawn into the picture.... im teaching you to suck eggs here arnt i lol
still a very beautiful picture

Hi Mel,
I also gave it a try, it is a difficult one, but as Nik stated it would probably have better results with the hi res raw version.
Nice image.
