Malta Sailing
Photographers Comments
On a recent holiday, spotted this boat heading back towards the harbour with the old side of Valetta city walls as the backdrop.
What do you think?
I would appreciate some critical perspectives?

Hi Roland, Nice warm colours in this image with the evening light. you have caught the movement in the sea nicely, and a lovely background to the image although I find this background keeps taking my eye away from the main subject being the boat. As you requested some critical perspectives, first thing that hits me is that the image is falling towards the left (easily rectified in photoshop), and I would have cropped a bit off the top, as the sky has no real detail in it and it covers about 30% of the image. Plus I would have liked to see a bit more room at front of boat so that it was not bang in the middle and it had somewhere to go (if you see what I mean).
Anyway welcome to the forum, hope to see more from you soon.

Roland i agree with Barry, lovely colours but i do find i keep looking at the dome and the boat is the focal point. Too late now but the boat would have been better L or R. Maybe even landscape to minimise the sky. Nice image though, hope you dont think i am too critical because its a nice well lit clear shot on a positive note. And HI!

Really nice photo, I like travel photography anyway, but had no preconseptions about what Malta looks like, so I'm pleasently surprised that it's so beautiful. Agree with others that the boat could be off center more. Where were you when you took this? In another boat? because ideally, you'd be more to the right so that the dome and spire don't become obscured by the boat.

Thanks for the comments! I'm looking to improve so I don't mind, being pointed in the right direction. I guess following the rule of thirds would probably hold me in good stead next time and put the boat in one of those areas rather then in the middle?
I was on another boat at that point at time and I waited till the glow from sundown before taking this photo. Luckily enough we were travelling between the dome and spire at that point in time.

Hi Roland . you have captured wonderful colours in the sailboat and water .. and find that the horizon . is off .. as Barry has mentioned .. next time I would suggest you try it in landscape format .. beside portrait .. that way .. you can always crop .. if your main image is too much into the center. ... Thanks for sharing ..
Cheers
Else
