Lightbulb How Crude Am I??

Ok, you probably going to think I've finally flipped, but I have just made my own lightbox - erm in a fashion <ahem>

Scouring the tinterweb, I finally settled for medium sized cardboard box, with to large windows cut on the left and right sides. These were then covered with white A3 paper.

Next I taped some more paper inside the box (top and bottom). For the lighting I used to standard desk lamps (don't give off too much light but I think they worked....

Told you it was crude, but it does seem to have worked. Missus has ordered me a collapesable lightbox fron tinterweb for £13 (but I gotta pay for it.. LOL).

Ok, pictures below comprise of set up and some example shots.

BTW: I had to have the camera at least 5 feet away from the subject LOL - used 70-300 sigma on Macro mode - no flash used.

erm - daren't ask, but what do you think?

Cheers Peeps

Nowt wrong with that mate.
I thought the idea of cutting the sides out was so that you shine the lights onto the paper and you get softer light inside the box.

blimey spooky...looks terrific to me..remember also, if you want crisp sharp lines down the sides, put some black card in on the sides and this will gives clean black lines down the edges which look great in portraits but might give you an different angle to use when shooting in this lightbox..fabulous!!

*wanders off..now where's my washing up bottle and my sticky back sellotape..*

Merv, quick question, mate - those lamps you are using, what wattage/strength are they, where u get them from, and are they expensive... LOL

I think the ones I use the moment are definitely not strong enough LOL

The article says they are 500W each,
Do-It Yourself - PVC Light Box : Photography Tips at Cheapshooter - Photography on a Budget

A very quick google search has revealed this:-
500W Halogen Lamp - SHOP.COM UK

Hope it's useful.
