Default Smugmug

Chums,

Anybody out there in PhotoTopix land use Smugmug to host images?

The story …….. I originally had my images hosted separately from my web pages with a seamless link between them. I discontinued that, left my then hoster (1&1) and now buy web space with Hostgator. I had great intentions of doing my own galleries within my web site but I’ve just not found the time to dedicate to this. For image sharing I’ve have been using Flickr temporarily for around 6 months.

Now I’m not greatly keen on Flickr and certainly wouldn’t want to use it for my ‘Portfolio’. But I can’t seem to find the time to devote to creating a web site with galleries that I need to so I’ve been thinking of going back to an image hosting service + separate web site.

Smugmug looks very good to me. I’m not a professional photographer but do want to present a professional image. Smugmug seems to do that. I’m currently on the 14-day trial of their ‘Power’ service and intending to go with that. But I’m also looking at their ‘Professional’ service and wondering if it’s worth the extra spondoolas ….. I don’t need the selling prints etc side of things.

So, if any of you use Smugmug Power I’d be interested in your opinion of it before I go and pay for it.

If anyone uses Smugmug Professional then I be interested in your opinions of that, especially if you have found it to be worth paying the extra over the Power service. Do you use the Smugmug Professional service as your web site? … if yes then do you find the ‘customisation’ features on Smugmug meets your needs for a web site that looks independent & unique?

TIA, Dave
