Default Canon 5d mk 2

The new 5D II will not be released at Photokina, but instead will be a surprise announcement on April 22, according to a source.
The specs of the new camera are as follows (final name unavailable):

- 15.3 MP full frame CMOS sensor (vastly improved light-gathering capacity per pixel: improved micro lenses; miniaturized micro circuitry; enhanced signal/noise ratio)
- Weather sealing same as 1Ds Mark III

- Dual Digic III with all-new "CXR" NR system reported to best 3rd party NR software. Available as a C.F with 4 levels of customizable parameters.
14 bit A/D conversion

- ISO 12800 (C.F. up to 25600)

- Reported 1 2/3 stop sensitivity improvement

- All-new 29-point TTL CMOS sensor
with 12 cross-type for F/2.8 or faster lens
(35% faster than 40D)

- Micro lens fine adjustment for up to 14 lenses

- 300,000 exposure shutter durability

- 6.0 / 3.0 fps

- 3.0" LCD
922,000 pixels

- EOS Integrated Cleaning System

- Live View (improved from 450D; latest generation)

- 6/3 fps continuous shooting for up to 68 frames

Speculation is high as always and there is even some doubt to the name, it may be called the 7D. Google it people and fill in the gaps.
One thing is for certain, those not able to afford a DS and never made the change to a 5D will be salivating and tempted i'm sure.

I have noticed one small missing detail = £££
But I already know, if you have to ask then you can't afford it

phil well i would have thought around the 2000 to 3000 mark like the 5D was when it came out! been putting money away each month for an upgrade so the camera pays for itself same with the lenses .. see what happens

5Ds Mark II & 5D Mark II

5Ds Mark II,Full Frame Format, Digic III, 16 Mp, 14bit, 5fps - 3200 Euros

5D Mark II, x1.3 ,Digic III, 10 Mp, 14bit, 8fps - 1800 Euros

Just when we thought the 1.3 crop was dead... ;-) While I wouldn't be surprised to see Canon announce two FF cameras this year, I really just don't see them making any use of a 1.3 crop sensor. We've no independant verification, so do remember that this is a rumours page!

not quite sure how they can call it a 5D mkII when it doesnt have a full frame sensor and has dropped from 12.8 to 10mp... sounds more like a 350D lol
the 5Ds is more my cup of tea .. cant beat a full frame sensor for landscapes

Ok, i'm not sure how much i'm allowed to say, but sod it!

We got to have a couple of hours play with the new 5D mkII at work today when the Canon rep paid us a flying visit (along with the 50D and the G10, for all you compact lovers).

Obviously i didn't really have much of a chance to put it through its paces, but i did get enough time to formulate a couple of early opinions.

The video function is actually better than i had thought, and the results were certainly impressive. The LCD auto contrast/brightness feature is quite a good addition (adjusts itself as the light conditions around you change), and its high ISO noise is much better. However, body and build wise, its still the same old 5D! I was never impressed with it, feeling it just didn't sit right (certainly without the grip) in my hand, and the build quality isn't what i'd expect from a camera of the at price range.

While it will sell well (especially as a lot of the current 5Ds are on the verge of being replaced by the pro's), i'm not convinced Nikon should be quaking in their boots just yet!

Sorry i can't give you more info, but it was only a brief play!

Some early thoughts on Todd Owyoung's Web Site (scroll 2/3rds ay down the home page) with links to other initial reviews and of particular interest ..... to some high ISO images.

Hi Paul, although it's essentially the old 5D body it does sport a magnesium alloy frame and weather/dust proof seals I believe ... is that right?
