Default Shooting modes "P" and "Auto"

I have just been browsing the manual of my D80, which I'm still trying to get to grips with, and I am wondering what the difference is between Programmed auto and the auto shooting modes, from what I gather in the manual, they sounds as though they have both the same effect....

I quote "Auto: Camera adjusts settings automatically to produce optimal results with point and shoot simplicity. Reccomended for first time users of digital cameras"

"Programmed Auto: Camera sets shutter speed and apeture for optimal exposure. Recomended for snapshots and in other situations in which there is little time to adjust camera settings"

You can set Flash, ISO and WB in P mode - not in full auto.

With Program auto you can adjust the aperture or shutter speed to suit your chosen subject. Plus as Suvendra said you can also adjust flash type, ISO and white balance.
