camera artefacts and flash photography

Thanks for that Merlin, but to see what is going on, a 100% crop (at native size) of the trouble spot would be larger and more help

What exactly is it you are trying to photograph? It looks like trees at night!

The pictures you posted are really not the best for us to look at. although in the second, I can see some sort of lines that I think you are referring to. You say this happens indoors too. Can you post a flash shot from indoors?
