Sad that were are coming to this in life where a small minority of small minded cretins can spread fear and hatred into the rest of the sheep, who don't have the presence of mind to apply common sense to a situation.

That link that Dennis posted the other day sums it up for me, I won't be rolling over and taking it in the a** because they can't see the difference between a Paedophile/ terrorist and regular Joe who just likes photography.

The guy was taking photo's at a train station, that's not allowed.
As a manager at Jessops and a keen tog, really he should have known better. You have to get a permit to take photo's at a train station and it's just a matter of paying a fee usually I think.

I've been refused permission to take photo's before, but in a place where I had no right to take them. I asked and they said no, can't really complain about that.

Actual photography at a train station is allowed, if you read the National Rail Enquires website about train enthusiasts it gives clear guidelines about rail photography.

Quote:
Taking photographs on stations is permitted providing it is for personal use. For any commercial photography, prior permission must be sought from the appropriate train operator or, from Network Rail at their 17 major stations. On busy stations the use of a tripod may cause a dangerous obstruction to passengers and you may be asked not to use one. In addition, tripod legs must also be kept away from platform edges and behind the yellow lines. Flash photography on platforms is not allowed as it may distract the attention of train drivers and train despatch staff and is therefore a potential safety hazard. You are also not allowed to take photographs of security related equipment such as CCTV cameras.

And from the same page you linked...

Quote:
Before you enter the platform
At major stations please inform the Duty Station Manager of your presence. This will ensure that station staff are aware that you are on the station and they can go about their duties without concern as to your reasons for being there. At smaller stations you should ensure that you advise a member of the station staff of your activities.
You may require a platform ticket to allow access to platforms.
Just turning up and taking photo's at a train station IS NOT A RIGHT and can be considered trespass if you do not obtain permission first. Asking permission first gives the Station Manager the ability to allow or deny you access and that is his/her decision.

From the well known UK photographers rights page...

Quote:
It is a criminal offence, punishable by a fine, to trespass on some property, notably railways, aerodromes, military bases and places where explosives are manufactured and/or stored. A photographer who enters onto these kinds of premises without permission is liable to be arrested.

Yes, I think that article was being a little sensationialist. Nothing has changed, they are merely pointing out what we already knew. It's just a shame that you can't do anything against the 'officers' who get the law wrong, otherwise I'd gladly be put in a cell for a few hours if it meant the pcso got straightened out.
