I'm guessing, but not sure that it's to do with the checking process.
If you were to take some and they were then rejected by Newport then I guess you'd have misrepresented the service as you didn't produce the advertised product. I'd get on the blower to Newport and ask if there's a way of becoming accredited, Post Office staff can do it so there must be a way round it. |

Not sure how the Passport 0ffice can tell, who or where these photos were taken, as long as you have a white background and are the correct dimensions.

Yes Barry is right as long as it meets all the requirements any one can take one. Getting it certified is a different matter.
Take a look here there is also a PDF download detailed information on passport photos (PDF, 303K) Passport photos and who can certify them : Directgov - Travel and transport IPS - Information for photographers Hope this helps

***k all to do with accreditation Phil....
I shot hundreds of them for my mate in Windsor, on the old polaroid camera and digi.... the requirements as i remember them are that it must be photographic paper, and the dimensions are critical...crown of head to chin and overall size plus bright bg...havent got the ruler out but yours seem ok visually... i have printed us, candian, dutch even Indonesian passports, never had one rejected..ugly faces it seem pass the test.... ![]()

I agree Andy,
however I have seen the signs saying something like "Passport approved photo's sold here". or words to that effect. What makes them approved? or is it all just hype and sales pitch? I have all of the relevant templates, sizes, dimentions, photographic qualifications, papers, and know how. So am I breaking any rules to suggest that my passport photo's would be "Passport approved"?

I think the phrase "passport approved" means the photographer takes the photos in line with the requirements of the IPS so if their guidlines are followed they will get approved.
I think people advertising "passport approved" in their marketing is just that, "marketing" words to make people think they must get them done there as they will be approved rather than at Joe Blogg photographers down the road that doesn't have "password approved" in his window. |

I think you may be right on here Paul. I am beginning to like the potential of the word "approved" almost as much as I like the word "alledgedly"....LOL
From now on, I shall be "Passport approved", "Studio approved", "Portfolio approved", "Wedding approved", "Portrait approved", "Commercially approved", "Glamour approved", and anything else approved that I can think of.........alledgedly.
