Default Is everyone going HDR mad????

Is it me or is everyone going HDR mad???... I must admit, I too love playing around with it - maybe it's just me but it seems that people are trying to get every shot they can into HDR... In some cases, I feel that it probably made the pic worse where maybe some subtle changes in PS could have helped - or is it the pic was that bad to start with and are just trying to save something from it using HDR apps???

Interested in your thoughts????

Default Hdr

I agree, some subjects i have given the HDR treatment haven't worked out as well as i thought they might. They looked better either left as is or with a bit of editing. It does allow you (if the subject is right e.t.c.) to retrieve detail in the highlights and shadows you wouldn't maybe see in a normal exposure shot. I dont think if the shot is bad to start with HDR rescues it, if its a bad shot its a bad shot anyway.

I like it because it adds a new angle/interest and its easy to try.

Just my opinion! Good thread, as there is tons of HDR!!!

Dennis

Not me. I have not got involved in this HDR stuff, I'm quite happy too just tinker around a bit in PS just to help bring the best of of a image. Although I have got noting against HDR I'm just happy doing what I do.

I've had a little play with HDR but I prefer to just layer the different exposures and then use masks to get the desired effect. I much prefer it to HDR

HDR has its place in photography, but I do agree it can be overused. Myself being a culprit, I sort of introduced the HDR to this site (it was like a new toy), but I have realised to that sometimes HDR does not work on certain images.

Yep, its great for bringing out the details lot in an otherwise bad image (we all take them), and like everything new, people want to try it out.

Its great for those who are/had tried HDR, since it has opened new avenues to them. Not everyone can get that perfect exposure when they want it (one of the guilty ones here), and if I can use HDR to help the image then I will try it.

It is great to just get that image where you tweak the levels, do a little healing/cloning here and there, but depending on weather elements etc, its not always possible.

Again I appologise for introducing HDR (not of my own bat, I came across it elsewhere), but its great for myself and others to learn.

TIA

MARK

i suppose its just a fad ... its like people with the long exposures of water all done at the same speed with the same grads and nds ... just taken in different locations.... then for some odd reason they continue to do it with every image!
before that it was high contrast images lol... oh the list goes on itll wear off soon enough

Im just grateful that people go to the effort of showing these new techniques and effects in the photography world....will i use them...who knows....will i try them....definately, and this goes for HDR, iv never tried it, and i know little about the technique, but reading and looking at the article on the HDR thread Mark has taken the time to write inspired me to at least have a go, as in wildlife photography i do like to keep my shots as natural looking as possible, but i do like to try as much as i can on the learning road in photography and somethings i shall probably not go back to, but if i pick up one thing that i like, and that can help with my images im more than grateful..

Well I am mad ... but, I have not got into the HDR yet.
I thought perhaps this was a trick question ... and I hope I don't get a diagnostic invoice for this consultation. *insane grin*
However, in all honesty, My PS Elements doesn't support HDR, but there are some fabulous things going on with it ... and the trend is growing.
Regards Tedz

I think it's similar to when we first get into photography. I still remember the chill and the thrill I got with taking close up of leaves; however I've taken them all out to the burn barrel out back. But I didn't have the good sense not to show them to my friends first...they tried to be supportive (the poor dears)...but I've become more experienced since then through lots of trial and error..now I have a better idea of which leaf pictures to show to my friends and which not to. It all comes with experience. But through all of the good, bad and ugly it's still so much fun. I've never done HDR but someday would love to give it a try. When it's done right, it can be very pleasing.

i like to use it but ive seen some really untasty looking shots, i think it has to be used well and/or subtle for good effect. not ott
