If I manage to get up to Focus, I will certainly have a look at these prints.

Thanks for posting such a detailed response to your DSCL prints. I have not got round to sorting my order with them out let, due to the fact that I'm still sorting out images from my Hong Kong trip and getting them re-sized etc, to fit all of the various gaps in my Blurb photobook.

A development on DSCL.
I spoke to a guy who was lecturing at my camera club last night, and he has been using DSCL for a while. He showed some mono prints that were perfectly mono. I told him of my pinkish prints and asked him what he did differently. He said that he has been sending his images with the adobe RGB working space, rather than DSCL's own profiles that I used. But more importantly, he said that there is a 'monochrome' option when you order the prints, which I assume makes sure that the RGB elements are equalised when printing. Good news!

I have just had some 'Visible Light and Infrared' images printed by DSCL. These were converted to monochrome in Photoshop using Silver Efex Pro and then uploaded to DSCL for printing, I then reordered and used the monochrome option, and to be honest I cannot tell the difference between them. So I presume that my monitor must be well calibrated to suit DSCL as what I see on my monitor is what I get using there Profiles.

Hi Barry
Interesting that you could not tell any difference.
I don't think that it has anything to do with your monitor, I think it's more than likely something to do with the conversion to mono beforehand. After all, you could have the worst monitor in the world, and as long as the jpegs are mono (in other words, all R,G,B values are equal to one another) then they SHOULD print out OK. The fact that your 2 sets were OK and my original set was not suggests that my original set was probably not true mono. I can't remember what I did to convert them now, probably just reduced saturation in RAW conversion. I'll know next time, anyway, to make sure that they are greyscale before sending.

I noticed that DSCL's prices have gone up by 10-20%. They are still the best value that I have found anyway. There's no going back to Photobox now, however many special offers they send me!!

Andy.
