too true chappie
Still got my 10D and my 1Dmk2...could prob do with replacing the 10D but 1D is fine and dandy..tweaks arent enough for me to upgrade and i dont need live view which the 1Dmk3 has..also it only has 2mb improvement on the sensor so it doesnt seem like canon will get my money via bodies although my sigma 28-70 2.8 is long in the tooth and i want some fresh glass..
i guess one company updates so everyone does to keep up..it wont end..

camera bodies are like computers these days, they soon get superseded, at least glass if fairly stable and that costs the most, small mercy's i suppose LOL

Well I'm still using my old D70 just as much as my D200, so I won't be changing until the D3 drops to a more affordable price.

I spent Ten grand in the last 24 monnths. And thats peanuts. Digital has many plus points and advantages over film. One of the flip sides is that cams are quickly upgraded. If you are canon based, have 'L' series lenses and a cam that will shoot between 8 and 17 mill pixels then relax. Enjoy the cam to its fullest, enjoy your photography and don't get caught up in the pixel war. I still have wonderful transparancy images which are razor sharp from my old mamiya rb67's. A decent scan and you'd be shocked at the quality.
Don't get too caught up in technology. Always think about the image. If you know you can get that pic with what you already have then why think about an upgrade?
A half decent cam, nice glass and photoshop instead of a Durst and you should be singing image wise.

Tis true there is a race .... but it's a manufacturer’s race not a photographer's. Some people may get caught up in it but that’s their choice (or addiction). You are the only one in charge of what you buy.
To be fair to the manufacturers they are often responding to what professionals want/need. IMHO technical advance in camera equipment is driven by the needs of the sports & journalism areas of professional photography. The result is that manufacturers get a reputation for being the lead for this or best for that. Subsequently that technology finds it’s way into the consumer market.
As an amateur, I tend to stay a healthy distance behind the curve. Started with a Canon 10D, the 20D was a significant improvement but still didn't pick one up until it and been on the market for 12 months. Since then the 30D & 40D have come out, neither being (for me) such a significant improvement to make me part with the cash when they first came out. When the 50D comes out , I'll probably pick up a 40D body & keep my 20D as back-up ….. or then again if a replacement for the full frame 5D comes out I may pick up a 5D body a good bit cheaper than they currently are …… I would say that that’s a ‘considered’ approach for an amateur
But it’s not about equipment (although difficult subjects are made achievable with better gear) …. it’s about making pictures …… that’s why you are here in PT Forums and not on some ‘techno photo gear appreciation’ site
Oh what am I saying, stuff all that …. just go out and buy it!!
