Default North Yorks Railway at Goathland

Photographers Comments
Everyone else appears to have been here too in the last week!
I took some good pictures in Pickering like Denny and Len but later in the day arrived in Goathland (home of Heartbeat)for a walk in the hills. As we drove into the station car park I noticed a group of excited kids looking down the line. I guessed a train was coming in - so jumped out ( a la Starsky and Hutch) and ran towards the crowd then elbowed my way in front of a matronly schoolteacher and fired off two shots.
This was the best one (in my opinion!)

My immediate thoughts were lose the B and 5 with a portait crop that preserves the locomotive and that great steam and still some space for the train to move into. I much prefer the locomotive to the track side signs.

Shots like this are bam, bam and the train is gone. Its only afterwards you have time to think about the surroundings of the image. Take your point Mr Pie but all steam train images are great and my eye does stray to the numbers. Still a nice shot though mate.

I agree about the Steam Trains; but most pics are very similar - I wanted mine to look a touch different; with the number/letter combo giving an extra point of interest.
As usual I'm willing to admit I'm wrong ....or am I? .

There is no right and wrong is there? its all subjective you like it and like the composition fine. There are conventions of photography but no-one says you cant break them or have to follow them.
