Anyone else out there taking infrared images
After requesting this spot, I thought that I had better start it off. I only started playing with infra red at the beginning of 2006 after reading a article on it. I use a standard Nikon D70 and a 18-70mm Nikon lens. To which I attached a infrared filter, the filter that I use is in fact off a security light, this is a very dark filter that gives very good results. But not very good for colour infrared.
I have also got another Nikon D70, where I removed the standard sensor filter and replaced it with a Infrared sensor filter which I ordered from the states, but in doing so managed to damaged something inside the camera (so it is away at the moment being repaired for £183 ) but hopefully I will have it back soon . With this camera I should be able to take handheld shots which should give me a wider range of subjects to take images of.
I will post some more infra red images soon.
Is there anyone else out there taking Infrared images with their cameras, if so what camera are you using and are you using filters or have you had the camera converted for infrared use only.

Here is a link to one of my Infrared Images.
If you look closely at the top of the white tree, you will see that it is slightly blurred, this is because that by using a infrared filter I had to use a 6 second exposure at f8, so the slightest breeze will give blurred images . That is why I can only take Infrared images on a calm sunny day. Hopefully when I get my infrared converted camera all of this will change, as I should be able to use it like a normal camera .

Hi Barry,
Thanks for starting off the thread and section. IR is not something I have looked at so any comments I make will be purely for a visual point of view.
I’m liking your composition with the water leading me to the bridge then the bridge takes me from side to side. Not knowing anything about IR, I do find fascinating the fact that the fence on the bridge, presumably either a wood colour or white has been rendered the same as the green grasses in the fore ground. The light grasses to the left, keep my eyes in the image and bouncing back to the right and the main subjects of the image. The only distraction I see is the area of high contrast on one of the rocks in the middle of the stream, I’d clone out the white area or a t very least burn out the colour.
Thanks for sharing, I’m looking forward to seeing more of your IR work.

I'd actually forgotton all about IR and its nice to see a fan who knows how to use it.
There must be a way to simulate this effect in p/shop.
I like your shot. Composition is pleasing but i agree with Alistair about the rock. Once I noticed it I could'nt not notice it if that makes sense.
It would have been nice too if mother nature had supplied you with just a few more fluffy clouds to add impact to the sky. That said and done its a really good shot overall and well done mate.
Keep em coming...looking forward to some more IR imagery from you.

Thanks for your comments, I must admit that I had not really noticed that rock until you pointed it out. And now that you have it stands out at me.

Hi melr, I do not know anything about your Sony camera, so can it take Infra-red pictures or is that it uses infra-red for auto focusing.
