I have a split personality...so I get 2 guesses

hmmmm...could this mean #..or November?..I suspect that this is really a post standing vertical...It's a marker for...surveying...my first formative years were spent living on a Alberta farm plot that was designated as Section 21......ding..ding...ding...XXXX

Hi Nik,
the grain suggests it is definately painted wood. The water droplets at the bottom suggests it is correct in its position within the image. Underneath I can see what appears to be cobble stones of a path, not only used for walking on but also used for grip. I guess it is part of a cross section from a lock gate over a canal.

Phil...you are right about the position....it came to me in the middle of the night, "of course, if it is a post, it is in it's rightful position, otherwise the No would be on the right hand side.
