I have run both bud. I used G3's, 4's and 5's When I was working in the print industry. I always ran pc's at home mostly because at that time macs did not cater for the 3d application I use.
Macs CAN still get virus probs but compared to pc's its a ridiculously low problem. Macs do hang. The old multicoloured pie chart was a pain in the ass to be frank. If your PC is specc'd up then lag is comparitively the same, in fact this particular unit runs faster than most macs. I don't care a monkeys arse about how it looks, I just want it to work. This is where a mac, for me, works better. Stability. Lagging aside the macs I have run have been solid when handling multiple applications. There are more pro's than cons to be fair, for me. The 3d software I use is now mac ready. This is the way I will be heading. My ties with the print industry means I can fully kit myself out with mac goodies. I have a fondness for pc's but I lust for macs.
As donkey boy said....its the same old argument likened to nikon vs canon. I am happy to use either. But for me I would say go for the mac.
I used to buy all the firms mac gear from jigsaw...dunno if they still exist but there service was second to none. If they know you are gonna spend the loot, they kiss yer butt!

Youtube has finally done the vid.
It's not in HD yet but should be in a short while.

Don't forget that my iMac is now 20 months old, and like I said, it's better than me, so bare with the silly erratic mouse movements. And I used the mic not the sound card.

Now you had to go and say all that didn't you We used to have a couple of G3's in the office, not sure what happened to those boxes but oh so very nice to look at and use.

Hand on heart, I know the mac is where I want to go but i'm not sure it the iMac or at least having a self contained system like a lappy is what I want after the issue with my lappy display. I'm really going back to "the more moving parts the better" philosophy which is why i'm not going to consider a laptop as it's a bit risky for me now with so much work coming up.

I have kind of worked out that I need to get the drive configuration for optimal speed and include 4 the two 24" high spec monitors, lots of ram, quad core 2.98 processor and I know i'll be able to achieve this now (fingers crossed) with the money i'll get from the insurance which get me up and running immediately so I don't fall behind with the work I need to do.

Long term and maybe even next year business depending, I may move over to a G5 system as thinking hard, it's the scalability that i'll be after. As much as I want the iMac as it's a beautiful piece of kit, it's not going to be scalable enough for my own requirements. I need to be able to upgrade, upgrade, bolt on and do some more upgrading of individual parts!

YouTube - iMac doing... stuff.
Nice one Merv, sure looks like it can handle a few things mate. Thanks for taking the trouble to post that video up buddy, really appreciated. I definitely now know that it's the Mac direction that i'll eventually be heading but for now I need a quick replacement as I just can't put any of this work on hold!

It's funny you can't come to any conclusions unless you talk about them sometimes. Thanks to everyone who has replied in this thread, you really have help me heaps guys. My thanks to you all.

I'm just counting on a good payout now and i'm hoping to find out in the next couple of days how much it will be and how i'll be able to replace it. I'm just praying it's not going to be a voucher to use in PCWorld, that would break my heart and shatter my dreams!!

I'll keep you posted and thanks again for helping me bash it out guys.

A little update on this, i've heard from the insurance guys today and my laptop display is repairable gutted as i've now had to folk out loads for the PC I wanted to get so instead of the insurance money getting it, i've had to give them / lost £100 excess for a lappy which I now have to sell to pay for this other machine.

I am however intending to end up with a Macs but for now, I need a very quick PC replacement as time is dragging on, business is growing and i've got nothing to do my work on and i've not got any time to find my way around a new OS and new way of doing things as work is staking up now and i've nothing to do it on. Stressed out big time!!

But for now, the following is on it's way.

AMD PHENOM II X4 965 BLACK EDITION 3.4 GHz SOCKET AM3 8MB CACHE

2 x 150GB WD VelociRaptor® SATA 16MB CACHE (10,000rpm)
640GB SERIAL ATA 3-Gb/s HARD DRIVE WITH 16MB CACHE (7,200rpm)
22x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAM
512MB NVIDIA GEFORCE 9400GT PCI EXPRESS
ONBOARD 8 CHANNEL (7.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)
WIRELESS N 300Mbps PCI CARD
INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (READS XD, MS, CF, SD, etc)
STYLISH PIANO BLACK FUSION CASE inc. 2 FRONT USB
450W Quiet Dual Rail PSU + 120mm Case Fan
SUPER QUIET 22dBA TRIPLE COPPER HEATPIPE CPU COOLER
2 x IEEE 1394a FIREWIRE PORTS (1 onboard, 1 at back panel)
2 x LG W2261V 22" WIDESCREEN, HDMI/DVI-D/D-SUB FULL HD 1920x1080

and a partridge in a pear tree!!

Really interested in the x2 processor system Andy.... i'll have to look it up and find out more about it.
