I did my own site but it cost me a few quid, you could choose flash or not e.t.c but i am talking £25 quid for the name and hosting costs e.t.c I found it quite difficult at first but once i got my head round it it wasnt that bad. It depends what you want from it, if you want commercial capability and links for more hits e.t.c it can get more expensive.
this is where i started but other site bulders are available Cheap Web Hosting UK Free PHP Website Hosting. UK Hosting Company

I went down the route of using a site (Clikpic) that specialised in sites for photographers and you can make it look pretty good with all the templates & setting available...

I recently set up a site using Zenphoto it was pretty easy and I wanted a bit more control than I could get at photo hosting sites.
Obviously there are costs involved for domain registration and hosting, I use Bluehost, they seem pretty cheap and the basic package is plenty. You do need some technical knowledge but the great thing is that they have a scipt to install zenphoto and most of the confiugration & adding content is then done through the Zenphoto application itself. You can get a site up and running really quickly and then gradually learn how to modify & customise it if you like. My site's still in it's early days, mostly using a standard theme which I've started to tweak, it'll develop over time but until then the images are already available so there's no rush. cheers Daniel

The first site I did was all about my local village, the main purpose was to give myself something to do, so I went straight in to learning a bit of HTML and then just progressed from there by reading up and getting a book all about HTML
I ran that site for just over 10 years but recently gave the domain and site away for someone else in the village to run. Flash is a personal thing, myself I don't like it as it take time to load and I want to see a site NOW ![]() The cost for a Domain and hosting can vary a bit, I pay £26 for the domain and hosting. With the knowledge I learnt I set-up my own simple photo site with the gallery part using a modified Jalbum. A quick google or bing should find a few free html editor programs, but it can all be done with just a text editor (notepad) |

Flippin heck Mark £26 mine costs, £90, for domain and hosting, but I have a .com so thats more than co.uk or what ever, who do you host with, mines with 123reg
Daniel I made a flash gallery a few years ago, its easy to add images just upload your images into dif galleries, and alter 3 text files to point, example Clicky Linkyits a site I made, My original was done for togs and has exif and other functions, but this client just wanted basic without image information, so very light file, it has extra info that togs like to see, and all images pre load, so its quick, and no one can nick your images, Im only speaking about the gallery not the whole page, but easy to embed, I can let you have a copy to try if you like free of course, Dave

try Ready Photo Site. They offer classy designed editable flash websites which are really affordable! You can edit content, design elements, meta data and you can also sell photos from the site. I'm currently testing the trial version of the product and i'm delighted with the result! I also love the support!

Hi kyle
Copied this from my first post "I've recently built my own site using Clikpic and while it is a template based system which some may say is lacking in individuality, with some artistic creativity (and creative use of html) you can make your site look unique and very user friendly. The cost is minimal - compared to paying a web designer £500 or more - and you have complete control of updates etc. I am happy with what I have been able to achieve in a couple of weeks working on it in the evenings and I feel for the money and the effort I have spent on it, it does justice to my photos" Good luck |
