Sigma 50-500mm EX DG HSM AF
Has anyone got one of these lens or the Sigma 170-500mm. If so how do you rate it for picture quality and sharpness.

I have a Bigma and I am very happy with it. It does weigh quite a bit and obviously towards the 500mm the shutter speeds slow down. I know some people have complained about sharpness on the longer focal lengths but I haven't noticed. I would like to borrow the Canon 100-400mm L lense to compare though.

That is what I heard, that sharpness was a bit soft at the 500mm end , Yet my Sigma 70-210mm 2.8f lens is superb at any length . Maybe I should look at the Nikon 80-400mm lens as it is sharpness that I'm after.

After much research on longer lens, I have now ordered a Nikon 300mm f4 lens which gets excellent reviews for image quality and sharpness, even with a 1.4 teleconverter fitted.
