Nikon 80-400mm F4.5-5.6D ED VR AF Zoom-Nikkor Lens
Nikon 80-400mm F4.5-5.6D ED VR AF Zoom-Nikkor Lens
Has anyone got one of these Lens as I would like some feedback on on it as I have heard they are slow on the focusing?
Thinking about getting one mainly for wildlife, birds etc.

I read a few reviews of superzoom lenses last year and out of all tested they picked up on the fact that it was slightly slower than other lenses, sorry to be a bore but as before with other lenses i went for the Sigma 80mm-400mm OS which seemed to come out on top in all of the reviews i read.
The only real difference i could see with the Nik lense was that it had better optics than others tested but it would do it costs a lot more than the other manufacturers, for the stuff i do i couldn't bring myself to justify the extra as i have always found Sigma lenses to produce brilliant images, that's why all my lenses are Sigma and iv'e just won another on Ebay....
PS: Sparrowhawk/Ostrich & Sandhill crane in wildlife gallery were shot on the Sigma 80mm-400mm OS.

Yes mate 80mm-400mm OS, OS stands for Optical Stabiliser which is Sigmas own version.Don't know about the Nikon but the sigma has 2 settings 1/OS just adjusts side-side (for panning) 2/ side-side and up-down (for general stuff)....

Sorry if its a little late
I have this lens - and yes it is a little slow, I must admit that most of the time it's left at home in favor of a 70-200 2.8 which is much faster even with a 1.7 converter.
