Polariser Confusion

Hi

After reading about Circular Polarizers i decided to get one as they sounded really good, i bought a Hama Proclass 58mm Circular Polarizer. However after taking shots of the sky one with and one without imagine my disappointment as there is no difference at all between the 2 shots?

Am i doing something wrong?

you have to spin the filter around and you will see a noticeable difference in your sky going darker..also with water it takes the shine off and makes it all go darker too

Sorry Eos i have done that but no change at all, the filter has a nice little spigot so i can turn it, if i hold the filter off the camera and look at say my laptop screen the screen does disappear when i turn it but on the camera i can turn it all the way round and see no change at all through the viewfinder or lcd screen

I think Andy is right on this one.
Your laptop screen is staying visible probably because your camera is adjusting the exposure to compensate.
Try the water (or glass) test so see if you can get rid of reflections.

A polariser works with ambient light therefore your best trying it outside,i think looking at your computer probably wont be bright enough to see any discernable difference.
Stick it on your camera and look thorugh the viewfinder and point it at the sky (obviously not directly at the sun LOL) now turn the filter whilst still looking throught the VF and you should now see the difference as you turn it.

HAHA back again for an edit just been outside and realised i forgot to say not a blank sky as there will be no detail to reflect any light so you wont see anything...LOL

Also for best results you should be pointing the lens at about 90 degrees to the sun, find some blue sky with clouds and you will see the difference when you spin the filter.
