Laptop....
Thanks to the superb advice you lot have given me next week I shall be ordering my Nikon D60 and can't bloomin wait! Feels like a massively drawn out Christmas Eve!
Basically now I will be wanting a laptop on which to transfer my pictures and to edit them using Photoshop or something similar. Im wondering what I need to look for in a laptop? It needs to be good on the internet and for storing transfering and editing photographs. What sort of spec should I be looking for? Im not bothered about games as I have my console for that task, this will purely be for managing and editing my photos and for going on the internet. Any suggestions more than welcome!

It's worth having a look in Tesco as well. Ours in Milton Keynes is one of these bigger jobbies and does quite a range of electricals. I picked up a nice laptop for the other half last week - Fujitsu Siemans, 160Gb hard drive, 2 Gb RAM,dual core Centrino processer, ideal for photo editing. With a good waterproof bag, cost £400. Excellent BriteView screen as well!

On a similar topic, does anyone have any comments over whether to go for a pc or mac laptop to use for mainly photo editing and managing/storing etc?

How much do you want to spend Tony? PC = inexpensive, Mac = Mucho dinero. Lots of software for the PC. Never really used a Mac but I'm sure they're good.

I don't know if I am going to buy yet, it was really a question to see what people thought of the two different options.
I am on my old pc still but keep thinking about a laptop and am drawn by the Macbooks, they seem to be very well made and reliable. Also a lot of people say they do not suffer from viruses etc.

Viruses don't work on Mac's, it's difficult for me to explain but when you see one try and get on it's actually funny.
I could bang on and bore you to tears with reasons why I prefer my Mac to my PC's. I have now given my home PC away and kept the Laptop but barely use it.
The price is higher and using it a little different, it took me 2 days to get used to the OS and I'm still finding cool things 3 months later; like yesterday I found out I can plug my camera in and the Mac downloads the pictures, deletes them off the memory card, puts them in a folder I set up for sorting and opens the folder for me to see.
But the main thing is, (I hate to sound like the adverts) it just works.
For managing files, spotlight and finder are just awesome. When I plugged my external drive in, I noticed spotlight was very busy and this worried me but I realized afterwards that it was looking at every file in there and remembering where it is, type in any filename, folder name, program, song title etc. and your matches are there instantly.
Sorry I'm getting boring aren't I, if you want me to carry on, PM me.

If you go down the 'Windows' route, and you are only wanting to do photo editing, then I would probably stick with XP as opposed to Vista, as XP does not use so much RAM.
