The 50mm 1.8 is a great lens for the price, and certainly a great addition to almost anyone's kit. Yes, if you have a bit more money to splash around, then go for the 1.4, but i have never regretted buying mine!

Was the 2nd lense i bought as it was so cheap and was desperate to fill the gaping hole in my camera bag Lol
Great little lense for the money but i only used mine once at a portrait class with Alan towse at my local camera club (and then wish i'd taken my 18mm-70mm with me),flogged it last month for £50 in mint condition.
But hey that's just me!!! depends what you shoot i suppose as to whether you get the use out of it....

Seems to be a lot of price difference between 1.8, 1.4, and 1.2. Be nice to go to a shop with your own camera and try all of them?

I had the 50mm f/1.8 with my D80, but I'm really tempted with the f/1.4, playing around with such a limited DOF could be fun...
