Default Help! Nearly ready to buy a camera

Ive seen this seller on ebay 'emilyandlilly' ad they sell Canon EOS 350d Rebel XT for £279.95 and £20 postage with EF-S 18-55mm Lens, 4 bg memory card, 5-piece lens cleaning kit, CF memory card reader , high capacity Li-ion battery, deluxe camrea case and a mini tripod. They sell a lot and have a lot of positive feedback but also a fair bit of negetive. Now Ive heared the expression 'if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is" I need advice guys! Whats the difference between the normal Canon Eos 350d and the Rebel XT? And should I buy one from this ebay seller? heres a link to the auction

NEW~CANON REBEL XT EOS 350D CAMERA+LENS+ 4GB CF~6 BONUS on eBay, also, Digital Cameras, Photography (end time 13-Apr-08 15:50:00 BST)

(there are a lot I think its an ebay shop or something.) I really want one Im getting jitters not having an DSLR!

Hello Dave,

Can't really help you with the Cannon Camera Features, but have had a look at the sellers feedback.

Personally I would stay clear from them, It's not worth the hassle.
It appears if you have a problem, they don't respond and you have to start a claim through Paypal.

All the best
Paul

The one thing i would check is the guarantee!!! iv'e looked at loads of cheap stuff in china & hong kong but the reason they are sometimes so cheap is they don't have a european warranty so if it breaks you have to send it back.

Now in this day and age stuff is made to last but do you want to take the risk??? i know i personally don't just in case....

PS: have you thought about Nikon......LOL.....

Dave

For what its worth I think that if you are going to spend good money on a camera, spend a bit extra on some peace of mind. The other posters are correct in saying that there is a lot of non European warranty covered stuff on ebay. To get the best deal check the price via pricerunner or kelkoo and try and use a credit card with cashback. I recently bought a dslr from ebuyer. Ordered it at about 6pm one day and it arrived at 3pm the next. The price quoted included next day delivery so I knew what I was in for. Good luck

Rebel XT is the US name, and Kiss is the Japanese.

Why not go for a 400D? They are getting pretty cheap now that the 450D is out. Amazon and others are doing the body and kit lens for £400, and you can get body only for £350. The kit lens isn't brilliant, you can buy mine for £30+PP if you buy body only. With 400D you get 10 megapixels, and self cleaning sensor. Here's pricerunner link. Always get the best you can afford, because if you don't you will end up spending more replacing with better items, especially on lenses.

Its confusing its untrue! I was very nearly ready to buy a Nikon D40 it seemes brilliant but then i relaised Id be spending more on lens due to the lack of an auto focus motor and also it doesnt have any self cleaning capabilities and i predict I will be changing the lens a lot. I feel that £400 would be the VERY most I could stretch to at the moment but would be much happy spending less. So confusing.. Ive done loads of research in mags and on the internet but still feel none the wiser really! Dont want to spend such a reletively large amount and suffer buyers remorse! Help much appreciated!

Dave i have bought stuff from this site before and can say they are a proper outfit. Arrives when it says, price is ok, they check out mate! I have spotted the new Nikon D^0 with the VR kit lens which has good reviews at £429.25 but you get £40 cash back on this deal so it makes it £390 + Postage which is less than your £400 total.

Simply Gadgets Nikon D60 with VR lens

Couldnt find abetter deal with everything you are looking for, it has anti-shake in the lens, sensor cleaning e.t.c.

Shame its a Nikon LOL

That looks good, does it have a motor inside for the lenses or do you have to buy the more expensive heavier lenses with motors in? Looks a brilliant deal and it has a self cleaning mechanism which I need too, thanks matey
