Otherwise ACR 4.2 is required for direct processing of 40D Raws, and ACR 4.x works only with PS CS3.
Or use canons Dpp which will convert the 40d raw files

Thanks Alan, the trouble im having is that the DNG converter wont even convert the files, i just keep getting a message "There was an error passing the files", so i am using picassa at the moment to convert them.
Never had this trouble with my other Canons

It seems it is true...
Raw Files on CS2 and 40D
I presume all of this is because software manufacturers dont like to maintain multiple levels of historic software?
