Macro lens for Nikon
I've mentioned in the "Christmas Wish List" elsewhere in these forums that I'd like to get a macro lens for my kit bag.
I've found a couple of reviews and raves about the Tokina AF 100mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro D macro
Here is one of the reviews I managed to find: Tokina AF 100mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro D macro - Photozone Review / Test Report
Anyone else seen any good reviews or know of a very reasonable prices macro lens for a Nikon?
Cheers.

Macro lens for Nikon
I use a Sigma 105 2.8f Macro lens, and have produced some very good images with this lens, in fact I have just come first and second in our local camera club photo competition and both images were taken with this lens.

Ahhh see, a club is something I'm not a member of and missing out on the competitions!
I would really like to see those photos if possible. Do you have them online anywhere?
To follow on from my original post, I took the plunge last Saturday and picked up the new Nikon 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED Macro with VR capabilities. I know (please correct me if I'm wrong) that manual focus is key to macro photography but the lens doubles as a 105mm prime portrait lens so that is where the VR will come into hand when the body is off a tripod.
I've still not used it yet, but I'm aiming to give it ago this weekend. I'll post some images when I have them and it would be great to get your feedback. Keep an eye on the macro critique forum over the next few days

Macro lens for Nikon
The "Back Lit leaf " and "Spider" images in my gallery were both taken with a Nikon D200 and Sigma 105mm 2.8f lens using manual focus.

You mean that you would not lend your hubby your lens. He has to buy his own .

The missus would kill me if I spent any more on me camera! So, LOL I cheat. I use my Sigma 70-300mm set to macro mode, and then add either/both +2 +3 magnification filters. I know it not a proper macro lens, but I get some good results.... Now where did I put the acutal pictures.... ahem....

Ogofmole ..... he was unsure which macro lens he wanted ...... Sigma 150mm was one of the lenses he was interested in, but then he saw how good my tokina lens was, and as mine is hardly ever off the Nikon D80 he decided to get one for himself ..... I did let him borrow it a couple of times though .... I'm not that mean LOL ...

The results from the Sigma lens look really impressive. I've still not had chance to try my new nikon lens yet

If you are on a budget, you can get the Kenko extension tubes that can turn any lens into a macro lens. They are about £80 for three in various sizes that you can put in any combination between your camera and lens.
Keeps your kit back lighter too!
