Which telephoto lens?
I've got about £150 to splash out on a new lens, I'm after a 70-300mm lens, not sure whether to get the Nikon or the Sigma or is there another worth a look.
I own a Nikon D70s and my other lenses are a 18-70mm and 55-200mm vr.
Any advice would be helpful before I splash out...Cheers and Merry Christmas.

Hi Jason,
I own the Nikon 70-300mm/4-5.6 D ED AF lens. I really like it. I tried the Sigma first, but the quality and speed of the Nikon is what I preferred. I take a lot of sports photos with it so the speed was very important to me and I've had no complaints. The only thing I'd prefer is the 2.8 lens for lower lighting conditions, but can't afford that one. I'm waiting for the day they create an affordable one and I'll be first in line.
Hope this helps...have fun shopping.

Hey Jason,
Save another 150 and get the Sigma 135-400, I use that for all my bird shots and I can attest that it is sharp as a tack.

Jason, I use the Sigma 70-300 with the D70s. Not having had a Nikon I can't compare however I did have a Tameron and I can say the sigma is better. I have no complaints about the sigma lens I do remember reading a review on the net somewhere and the sigma came out okay, Don't know if that helps.

A really big thanks to all of you for helpful advice since I last looked, I have just bought my lens yesterday.
I got the Sigma 70-300 mm APO version as you mentioned Genese, It was a bit dearer..cost me £139.99 from Jessops a little bit more expensive than on the net but I was there LOL.
It is a little slow but when my pocket can afford it I may treat myself to a faster one.
At the present I can't justify spending so much, one day hey.
As soon as I got some decent shots with this lens I upload and share.
Thanks to Pete, Marvin, Genese, and Debbie for getting back to me and giving your advice, cheers.
