yeah sorry about that ... i should mention i have spent a serious amount the more serious you get the more equipment you need, to produce great landscapes as alistair said you will need a shutter release and tripod, and i would also recommend the polorizer as time goes on and you learn about long exposures and want that dreamy effect to your photos then ND grads and ND filters will be needed, they dont cost too much really but are worth every penny

if you cant stretch to a cable release or cant fit one like me! I use the tripod then use the self timer set to 2sec. Press the button and stand back. My photos seem sharp enough most of the time!

I never use a shutter release cable, I always use the self timer (it's cheaper).

The main restrication to using the self timer is when you are doing bulb exposures

Thank you to everyone for the terrific advice. It's an expensive hobby but I love photography so will look to build my kit as I go along and become more proficient at it, aiming to produce some of the wonderful stuff I've seen from all those who have replied to my thread!

Hi genese that's really helpful but don't think my images are good enough to sell at the moment. I will have a look at the link you sent when I get home. Off to Hereford to work in a short while.
Thank you for being so thoughtful genese a trait I've found in a few folk on this forum, so glad I joined

blushes
no problem ... with alot of the photo agency sites you do not have to be a professional for instance there was a request for "child with bird" so i had a quick flick through my hard drive and sure enough i had some pictures of my daughter with a harris hawk.. so i sent them in .. they were taken as snaps just for the family album and not at all what i would take commercially..
they have stock for everything really from images for education purposes to images for advertising and magazines.
glad your loving the forum ... its a great home away from home!

I got a remote on eBay for about £6, For bulb exposures, click it once to start the exposure, and again to stop it.

Wayyyy cheaper than a cable!
