Default Sony A900 advice

Basically, I'm looking to upgrade from my Sony A350x to the new A900.

Does anyone have one? I've read a lot of reviews, some have clearly been biased against Sony full stop.

I've had several sony cameras and have found them exceptonal. And my latest 350 has served me very well, taking some outstanding photos. I just want to move up a level, and the A900 seems like a logial choice as I'll be able to use my lenes & flash etc.

So do we have any A900 users who can share their pro's and con's.

good review here

Sony Alpha 900 Review: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

I like the look but i dont think it shares the same batteries and stuff either. Plus its very much more expensive

i am a 350 convert i have stick because its not nikon/canon but who cares my images get half decent reviews. The A900 has no full time live view i use this all the time for different angle shots and stuff, its full frame so what you have to have to watch is unless your lenses are full frame spec they wont be a lot of good on the 25mp sensor. Other considerations are if they are OK they might not be up to scratch in quality terms (summising here) if you have that resolution you need top quality lenses. I am hanging out for the Sony A800 which will use all my lenses and have live view but its not launched yet. but it will be this year. What lenses you got?? Some of mine would work some wont.

Not sure about the Sony - get a Canon

Looking back I took a similar step from the Canon 450D to the 50D (Although the 50D isnt full frame). To me, I dont thinkk the better camera has given me the extra moneys worth of picture quality or extra features. However, would i swap back - No !

As Dennis, I wouldnt be without my live view.......

From what Ive read you get a lot more for your money with a Sony so maybe I should convert.

Ok sorry for not helping, I will now stop rambling on.

I am Sony, love and would not swap for a 900 because it would cost me about 2k in lenses. My wide angle 10-20mm wouldnt work, my 18-200mm wouldnt work and my 70-200mm f2.8 wouldnt work. replacement cost around 2k a lot of lenses arent made for full frame and if they are get more dosh out!

Wouldnt be without my Wide Angle, though wouldnt a 17(ish)mm onwards give the same effect as a 10mm on a full frame sensor camera ?

Yep, but my point is i have already bought all these lenses "designed for digital" and if i moved to the A900 i would have to buy half again in more expensive guises! They would fit on the camera but would give severe vignetting i am led to believe.

Not trying to put you off John i hope you dont think this, just checked its 5 times the cost of the A350 will you get 5 x better images? If i had a blank cheque book, didnt own any lenses i would buy it.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
When I bought the A350 I paid somewhere in the region of £700 from jessops online, including the bag. Now I was led to believe that my flash, lenses and batteries would work with the a900. I did intend taking my lenses and flash to trial on the camera in Jessops, (they allow you to do that) then I was going to take a few shots using my memory card. I was then going to process them and compare them in photoshop to see if the benefits were worth the extra costs.

Guess I'm going to need to research more about the stock lenses I have with the A350. I had thought about finally buying a G series ssm lense, expensive as they are, but I didnt want to have to replace my stock ones.

I guess, It is better I don't rush in after all.

Thanks for all your comments. I'll keep doing the research.

I have double checked, the battery and flash seem ok, the big issue is if your lenses are for APS-c size sensors they will not be compatible with the new A900. I notice the replacement for our camera the 350 has been launched, it has a different battery!

Dennis, is this a scam by you to make the sony more well known..LMAO!!!!!!!!!

maybe i should get one too?? hmmm nah!

Sorry!! like the big guy says, he gets some stick, but he also says we love his images, so thats your answer right there...

if your lenses dont work, ebay them or trade them against some new ones should money allow but i guess once you go up a level in cameras, you never go back.....

Got me my canon 1D, only other camera will be the next 1D!!

Happy Shopping
