Canon A Series Film Cameras
Looking at getting an old Manual Canon A series, such as an "A-1" or "AE-1" etc.
Just fancy one for playing with - taking shots of charlie playing in the garden etc.
What films would people recommend?
Any one shot with slide film before?
What's the deal with slide and film/negative scanners to get these film shot images onto your PC?
Cheers,
AL.

Now film is something I'm personally not too familiar with. I started with a 35mm Zenith that my Grandfather gave me a long long time ago. That thing was made out of Russian tank metal!!
Sorry i'm not of much help here but i'm sure someone will be able to offer some great advice.

Yeah - I'm not that familiar with film. Can't see me actually shooting loads with it, however, it is something different to use now and again...

BW film is best these days for really capturing the emotion and presence of children playing (assuming Charlie is not a dog or cat or rabbit!!)
I can recommend Kodak BW400CN..very nice and not too grainy. colour film i would go with Fuji, prob 400 again as you can shoot without flash making grab shots easier.. Slide film you have to be really spot on with exposure..no room for under or over exposures..
Any one hour lab worth its salt can scan your negs onto CD and a set of prints for you..
Having done 7 years in a Prolab and early training on x2 minilabs had plenty of experience of wet labs and printing

Ilford used to be my main mono film Hp4 and then Hp5 I think? (old grey matter thinning just like my hair) For detail and long exposures I used to use agfapan 25..ultra slow film with minute grain that was a real bugger to focus on when under the enlarger. Damn i miss film sometimes..

I read an article where the guy advocates buying old film SLRs and then getting the images scanned onto CD. He reckons it is much cheaper, but he has a corner store who can do processing during lunch. Not much good for those of us who don't have access to this sort of processing.
Cheers Rex
