Hi Yvonne, your 70-300mm with the canon crop factor is already a 112mm-480mm add a 2x converter and its a 224-960mm you then lose 2 stops of light before you start. I would suggest a minimum shutter speed of at least the adjusted focal length would see a range of 1/250-1/1000 minimum then it would still be very difficult to hold the subject in the frame and not get movement blur. Converters are recommended to be used on f4 lenses or less as well. Canons if you read reviews seem to have more issues with converter compatibility than other cameras.
Most wisdom says you need a fast lens and dont go more than the 1.4x as the quality and the above problems are magnified. I know i am not answering your question but technically i am not 100% i do know most advice is stick to the smaller converter but they are only good on fast lenses anyway. I have a 1.5x converter but only use it on my 70-200mm f2.8. which is already a monster size and this then becomes an f4 lens with one stop loss.

I get decent shots but mostly on a tripod or monopod.
