the 40D was very well received so any updated and revised version will be just as great....lots of lenses, canon and others to choose. good choice!

As a 50D owner, I can thoroughly recommend it.

I'm still learning all the features, but I really enjoy using it.

Regards,

Steve

I'm a 50D man. A great camera. You probably need high quality lenses on it due to the high pixel rate (15MP), but it works great. The viewing screen (1m pixels) is excellent for reviewing shots. If your friend is a lady, she may find it on the heavy side with a good quality lens on, especially with a battery pack. Try it out first at a camera shop.

Do you mean L series Rob? I am still a bit miffed as to weather it is a very wise investment to go L series and 5D if I am blowing up and selling prints. I am very new to all this on a commercial level!!
;-)
I have a 40D at mo.

Ive got a 50D and to be honest at first I couldnt notice much difference picture wise from my 450D....... however after a very short while I realised that the 50D wins hands down due to the the build quality, features, general feel and useability.

I only own one L Series and have found some great alternatives. For example the Tamron 17-50mm is a superb Lens, extremely well priced(Piad £250 on Ebay) and has received great reviews and works a treat with this camera. The Canon 28 - 135mm also works well(better at F8+). The only L Series I have is a 70 - 200mm F4 L non image stabilised so didnt break the bank - again works fine. I also had a Sigma 10-20mm which was my pride and Joy - this had to go as it was rubbish on my IR converted Canon, so I changed it for a Canon 10-22mm which is just as good, if not slightly better.

I would only swap my 50D for a 5D
