Ooops sorry, completely missed your question. I've not progressed with this yet but I do intend to make an application in the next couple of months. I'll let you know how I get on.

perhaps you could apply as a volunteer to your local citizens advice bureau, or some other voluntary group and they would get it done for you, but it could take a long time. i wanted to do childminding so needed to be checked; i applied through the local council and it took about six weeks to come through.

I do all the CRB checks for my work place - the local high school. Every staff member cleaners, caterers, admin, teachers & leadership team must have enhanced disclosure. 6 weeks is about average for it to come through, try avoiding the beginning of school term-time as all schools will be submitting for new staff members.
I agree with previous suggestions of getting it done via a charity or voluntary organisation. We pay £36 per disclosure at the moment.
Hope you get sorted with it.
Cheers,
Julia

Default Swpp

I got my crb check via the society of wedding and portrait photographers. go to Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers - SWPP and BPPA -
it costs about £89 a year for membership but the mag they supply is very good and there are quite a few benefits. They supplied all of the forms and it waqs quite a simple process.
hope that helps!

Cheers for that info Andy, sounds like a really good option. With regards to membership, do they require anything else i.e. photos etc or do they just require the subscription?

I spoke to the guy at CRB today and he said though not required it is advisable to get a certificate to shoot kids. He echoed the rules about self employed not being able to certify themselves and it haveing to be agencies or employee's...etc.
ALSO...he mentioned another certificate which can give peace of mind to clients. Its called a 'subject access check' You get it via the data protection guy at the county police HQ to where you live. It costs a tenner and you'll get a certificate at the end. Can take between 30 to 40 days to go through.

I got my enhanced CRB check done through a school when I shot their prospectus photos. Since then I have worked in several schools, and regularly shoot kids at parties, shows etc, and no one has ever asked to see my CRB cert!
