i'm really enjoying your images Fi. besides the historical building, this has an old feel to it. perhaps is the man in the slax and jumper that gives it a fifties look.
i thought the middle of the day was supposed to be devil light, yet you work wonders. did you use a filter on the sky?

thanx Philippa, I occasionally use a polariser but not that often, ( we dont get too many days that its needed), I think because i "see" in mono when im shooting architecture i also "see" the sky in mono and try to wait for appropriate skies, and i wont deny now and again popping the odd sky in over the original! lol
not on this one however this was the sky that was there that day,

here is the colour to compare...........

I'd have to say that this is one of the nicest B&W images that I've seen.
To me it looks like an old B&W painting, or one of those old line blocks that were used in books before the invention of the rosette and stippled plate making methods.

You mentioned that you have the ability to see in B&w?
Well that's difinitely an ability that I don't posses, and I would have to say that in this case it has paid off well.

The colour version is quite attractive as well,

Cheers,

Wow, this is so dramatic. I really love your composition. The B&W serves this shot very well. The detail and the textures are amazing. Then when I panned down and saw the people too...added so much character.
Just amazing! I agree with Joseph's comments about it being like a painting. You have a great vision.

Spot on for composition, with two very strong diagonals - the roof line and the curb line (which neatly runs into the the bottom right corner). It does have a dated look, I'm reading 'English Journey' by JB Priestly at the moment, and it has lots of BW townscapes just like this taken in the 1930's. Well done.

Can't say i usually like people in Architecture pics but this one seems to work really well!!! they hold your eye in the picture as you scan down it,might have got rid of the letters bottom left though to tidy it up a bit..... Nicely done Fi.....
