Have been using Photomatix Pro for a few weeks now and can recommend it.Not every shot lends itself to hdr but many do and the results have been pleasing to me but then I'm still learning-big time.The program is easy to use once you've done a few and there's a good range of paramiters to play with.
Any views on when to sharpen?...each shot to be combined,or after final hdr output?
