Default Nikkor F Series Lenses

I am after a bit of advice here guys.

I spoke to my father over the weekend and ran off with some of his old (& unused) photography kit.

He has a couple of Nikkon cameras and a few F Series lenses (All primes, one of which looks like a good macro lens). It seems that I can get an adaptor for my EOS 400D for these lenses (~£20 Ebay).

Is it worth it?

Are these lenses any good?

Some of the old lenses are dirty and seem to have fungus growing on the external surfaces of the lenses, but not inside.

Are they safe to use and do I need any special cleaners?

Regards,
Steve
