I don't do much macro but when I do I also use a 50mm with a 25mm extension tube. Another option for real close work is this little gadget. While I've never used one, it looks real interesting and you get amazing magnifications! Of course if you don't need to spend all that money, a step reversing ring will only set you back a few pounds.
