one thing to remember, you dont always need long expo's to get the moon. you would to get more ambient light in, but not the moon. there are a few moon shots in the members galleries, esp of the eclipse a while back. search out those and check the exif for their shots
if in doubt bracket like mad and shoot raw that way you can reprocess the same shot and HDR it..
